Thessaloniki Eat like a Local - Full Day Tour

Thessaloniki for Foodies

The best  “Eat like a Local”  full day tour

This cheery food tour will offer you the experience of authentic Greek cuisine in a way that only locals know. Perhaps you already know that Greece’s second larger city is a must-visit for foodies. On this tour, through the neighborhoods that locals have been eating in for centuries, you will understand why the city’s multiethnic history is reflected in its cuisine. Our meeting point is at Aristotelous Square. Skip breakfast today, because you will start your day with Rick Stein's favorite treat, "Bougatsa" – the traditional breakfast pastry of Thessaloniki. This pastry - brought by the immigrants from Byzantine Constantinople - is traditionally filled with a sweet vanilla cream. Over the years,  creativity took it a step further and now-days the filling varies from sweet and full of cream, to cheese, spinach, or even minced meat. Finish your breakfast with a piece of all-time-classic "Koulouri", probably the most popular and best-selling breakfast product in Greece. Appreciate the simplicity of taste in this round shaped, sprinkled with sesame seeds bread.

Full of energy you will walk to an authentic neighborhood where people live, eat and shop for generations. Kapani - Vlali open-air market is one of the most lively parts of the city.  Here you will really get a glimpse of daily life while wandering the market’s narrow streets. The best of what  Greek nature has to offer is on display.

Fruits, vegetables, fish, spices, herbs, even meat.  An explosion of colors, smells, and flavors!  Accidentally invented in 1957 during the Thessaloniki International Trade Fair, due to lack of hot water while exhibiting a new product for children, "Frappé" coffee, a foam-covered cold coffee, is perhaps the most popular coffee among Greek youth and foreign tourists. Or you can try the unique Greek coffee. Let's try one!

Afterwards, you will stroll the squares and discover an exciting city that blends ancient history with modernity. You will end up at a unique restaurant for a delicious lunch based on traditional Greek cuisine.

Free afternoon and then we meet again at  7 pm for your dinner. We won't tell you much now, but keep in mind that it will be an unforgettable evening tasting real Greece.
