1st day – Arrival day.
Start your Thessaloniki getaway with a private transfer from the airport to your 5-star hotel. Enjoy some free time before dinner at a local restaurant.
2nd day
Traditionally a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities, Thessaloniki was founded in 315 B.C. and is a city of contemporary beauty wrapped around ancient and byzantine wonder. Early in the morning and right after breakfast , we start our exploration. Rotonda (Saint George), the most important surviving church of the Greek-speaking part of the Roman Empire. The Church of Saint Demetrius, or Αgios Demetrios, whose mosaics are among the greatest masterpieces of Early Christian art, is dedicated to the patron saint of Thessaloniki, Ancient Agora (Roman Forum), the administrative center of ancient Thessaloniki. You’ll be also given guided tours in the the Archaeological Museum and The Museum of Byzantine Culture – a fascinating Time Travel through the centruries.
Perhaps you already know it, that Greece’s second city, is first in food. A real culinary hot spot. So, we also have arranged a mouthwatering lunch for you, at trendy neighborhoods that locals love to gather. Greek dishes and “meze” at its best. Moreover, what ‘s a city tour without time-off for a great cup of coffee? With so many cosy cafes spread all over the city center, it won’t be difficult at all to find the one that suits your tastes.
3rd day
No city break to Thessaloniki is completed, without a day tour to the most important archaeological discovery in the 20th century in Greece, the internationally famous Vergina, a small town which was the first ancient capital – once called Aigai - of the Macedonian Kingdom. It was here in 336 BC that Philip II was assassinated and Alexander the Great was proclaimed king. Aigai has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status as "an exceptional testimony to a significant development in European civilization". The gold and silver treasures and paintings found in the tombs at Vergina are of extraordinarily high quality and historical importance.
We depart for the beautiful town of Veria (12km from Vergina) where we will have our lunch. Later we walk through the Old Town’s streets and the traditional Jewish and Ottoman neighborhoods. We will also see the memorial, built at the spot where Apostle Paul preached during his missionary journey.
Return to Thessaloniki and rest of the afternoon at leisure. Thessaloniki has a long tradition in desserts and sweets. Loukoumades, baklavas, galaktoboureko and so many more. Treat yourself with one and don’t miss to buy some for when you’re back home.
Day 4 – Departure day
Breakfast and freetime till you will be transferred to the airport in time to meet your scheduled flight. Hope to see you again and don’t forget to tell friends!
