What to Expect
Your day begins with pick up from your hotel. About 9 am begin heading North-East to Amphipolis wherein 2012 CE an impressive Hellenistic tomb was discovered, one of the most important archaeological finds of the last 40 years in Greece.
From Amphipolis, return to the countryside to travel to the wine country where you will spend some time sampling fine wines at two popular Drama wineries. Chateau Nico Lazaridis and its art gallery “Magic Mountain”, that hosts works of Greek and foreign painters and sculptors. These works are also depicted on the “Magic Mountain” wine labels.
Ktima (Estate) Manolesaki, a family owned estate. The father, George Manolesakis is amongst the very first people who revived the viticulture in this historic area. Refuel with a delicious Greek lunch at a traditional tavern.
After lunch, journey onward to the “small Rome” of Philippi, a Unesco World Heritage site. Explore the site historic remains, Lydia’s Baptistry and learn about their history.
Return to Thessaloniki in the early evening, and finish your Drama Region tour with a drop-off at the start point.
